Finally got around to removing the out drive for the winter. As a first time boat owner I'm curious as to how everyone covers the exposed area after removing the sterndrive.

Since the one Shaw linked to is discontinued and sold out for Mercruisers, a plywood plate can be used just as effectively. It doesn't need to be pretty and some foam can be glued on for moisture and bug control.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... I don't,.....

There ain't much there that can be damaged over the course of a couple months,.....

If yer that anal 'bout it, duct tape a sheet of plastic over it,...

Thanks for the welcome Bondo. I looked in there and had the same though as you but...it's gonna be a good five or six months up here in Michigan.

Agreed,... but I try to make it harder for critters to get in over the winter storage,... I put buckets of moth balls around for the winter but remove come spring bc I hate the smell,.. but apparently so do the mice bc since using them I havnt had any critters. About 10yrs ago I had (I think) a chipmunk get into my 220 SRV,.. made one hellava mess of the wiring in my dash.

I tied 3-4 plastic shopping bags over the gimble housing, not much protection from critters and such, but will keep dirt and water off everything.

For now I put a dryer sheet (critter deterrent) in there and duct taped a folded contractor bag over the whole thing.

I agree that nothing in there really needs to be protected. So I just stuff a greasy rag into the drive shaft bellows.
