Saskatchewan.
It gets cold, really cold. And windy, really windy.
That tarp and frame wouldn't last the night if it started blowing. You would be able to hear it a long way away.

ah yes lol. I can't see member locations when browsing the forum from my phone. been through Saskatchewan once, I'm sure I could watch my tarp blow away on me for days lol

This one looks real pretty. Wish it would work for me. I tried it a few years back. Temps dropped in the minus column, winds and a couple of feet of snow quickly followed. Snapped it like a bunch of twigs. Went the 2x4 route. Tarps last about 3 seasons if you pad all the corners and rub spots, but it's a battle. Seriously considering the shrink wrap route this year.

Really? I know Kansas City is in Missouri.

I'm not surprized. A recent poll showed the kids today didn't even know Canada was north of the USA. They don't teach spilling or grammor in school either. Any kid that didn't have thumbs couldn't even talk.....LOL.

And in my defense I wasn't born and raised in Kansas City or even in the USA of so I'm not a product of the American education system. I just happen to live here now :) I've lived in various parts of the world and I know where lots of places are, Saskatchewan was just not one of them I knew till recently.

Originally South Africa born and raised. Then off to Europe, seen Japan and a lot of the US & Mexico. Would really like to hit Australia one of these days and catch up with some friends that moved out that way. The world is such a big beautiful place. Those that don't travel should get out once in a while and see stuff.

My sons best friend is from South Africa. I work with a lot of your country men. Ever seen the far north?

I've been north of South Africa into Botswana and there about. Never made to the very top. My next door neighbor and really good friend of mine went to go see the pyramids in Egypt. After seeing his pics I really wish I went. I'll have to do that one someday.

Thats on my list. But things will have to settle down before I'd even consider it. The recent events must really hurt tourism.
I always find it unusual when some people think of Africa as a small place.

That should do where you are, looks very sheltered.
I doubt you'll have to contend with -45 and 60mph winds.
But I am really surpised at how green it looks!

Yes I'm very lucky in that I'm in a low spot quite sheltered from wind plus there are a lot of trees around me as you see. Wind is not going to be my biggest enemy but the weight of snow will be a challenge. The trees look great now but in just a few weeks all those leaves are going to drop and it's going to be a massive carpet blanket of leaves. My first year living here I tried raking it and raking it and raking it lol. I spent hours and hours on the weekends getting no where. A ride on mower with the bagger attachment fixed that right up :)

This question is very much dependent on your location. If it's a bit more temperate, a tarp would do. But if you're in a very harsh environment, I'd really go for indoor storage. That's the safest way without a doubt. Though a friend of mine had his boat in the shed and it the roof caved in during a hurricane.

Since your prop and out-drive are tilted up a bit, I would do a whole lot of wrapping and shrink wrapping of the prop and outdrive. you wouldnt want to have rain and/or snow fill up the exhaust cavity and freeze.

My first recommendation would be to tilt it down or remove the drive

Re: How to deal with snow on boat?

I built my tarp support system from metal electrical conduit- the small stuff 1/2". As mentioned, it doesn't take much strength if the angle is steep enough. There is a tradeoff in height vs tarp size vs visual obstruction in the yard but I just chose to make mine fit a tarp I had on hand with about a 45-50 degree slope. Last year, we had some epic snow storms followed by rain. Everyone was out raking roofs to prevent collapse. Two feet of wet snow just slid off my boat and piled up along side of it. Before this "system" I used to have to go out and rake off the boat cover after any snow. Now it sits all winter with zero attention.

I use the pool noodles from the end of the current season to wrap the ridge and prevent tear outs in the tarp.

At the end of the season, I just unscrew the coupler hold downs, disassemble and bundle the piping up into a small package and store in the garage. It takes only about 15 minutes to put up or take down since I labeled the pipe ends with a sharpie to make assembly easier ;)

Yeah I plan on putting a trash bag over the prop and probably some shrink wrap over the holes where you'd normally put the muffs. Water inlet. My outdrive is as low as it goes there. About 1/2 inch maybe inch from the ground.
