Spraying Water into the Crankcase where it can get into Bearings and ruin an Engine is just plain Asinine. As for Rain, High Humidity is far Different than spraying water in.
gents, I understand the fear of destroying an engine with the technique of spraying water :-( but....engines do survive much more than just a small misty spray when they go for a dip overboard.
In fact the technique for saving a swimmer is to drain the water and get the engine running asap to get the PH hot enough to evaporate any left over water inside the crankcase, rings & pistons.
that said would a light spray of water realy kill an outboard ? ...not that is encourage the pratice in any event !
A light spray of water does not kill an outboard.-----But owner needs to understand what a " light spray " is.-----And owner needs to understand that motor must run for a while to get rid of that water.----Water sitting on bearings is BAD !!
It is the Bearings where water gets trapped, and in some cases never gets out, leading to damage to the Crankshaft. But hey, if someone wants to be stupid and spray water into a 2 stroke, there is no law against it
