Hello, I have 12 gallons of gas from last season that I planned on using for my outboard. However, I have learned from the clymers book that gas goes bad alot faster than I thought, 60 days. Now, I am approached with the problem of disposing the gas. Can Anyone tell me where I can dispose of old gasoline? Also, does everyone agree that gas goes bad this fast?

how big is your lawn mower :) :) not sure how fast it goes bad, not sure if a fuel conditioner would help, or maybe small ratio mix with new fuel

yea , PHILLY .. around me at those recycle places some have a place for old oil.. dump it in there.. also put fuel stabilizer in your fuel all the time.. don't cost much , don't hurt nothin', probly helps things out.. makes your gas safe... FA-GETTA BOUT IT..

Call your local government enviromental people and they probably have some suggestions on where to take it. Here in Texas I called the TNRCC, which directed me to a local refiner (KOCH) who even drove to my place with a vacuum truck to pick up old fuel

I just buy a tank of premium for everthing at the end of the season, then start everything up in the spring. Never have problems anymore and figure it is cheaper than additives. When gas goes bad the octane goes with it so it burns poorly, premium gets you ahead of the game. I take it easy until I mix in good gas or run it out. I put new plugs in every two stroke I have every two years and use gallon size 2-stroke boat oil in all of them. 4-strokes get plugs when they start hard.

Yup, lawn mower likes bad gas when it is run often. Unless it smells nasty

Only exception is some carbs are cheap metal and react with gas, like many lawnmowers have. Simple, drain just the carb bowl on the bottom where most carbs have a drain plug and the gas in the line will stay good. I try to not let anything sit for more than 6 months, and leave gas in automotive style carbs or the gaskets shrink up(holley carb).

Mix your old fuel 50/50 with fresh fuel and burn it in your mower. Do yourself a favor and use fuel stabilizer, it won't affect performance and will extend the storage life of your fuel by at least a few months. My 40 evinrude fired right up with 5 month old fuel. Now if I can just get the shift control working right...

BOY i don't know.....i think you fellas are taking this "Bad" gas thing a bit to far......If you have a "can" of gas, stick your nose in it,+ smell..!!.. if it still smells like gasoline, it'll run just FINE... IF it has gone bad, it'll smell REAL BAD..!!!!!.gas kept in a "can", or tank,+ is full(to lower condensation), will keep at LEAST 9 to 12 months.....NOW that teaspoon of gas left in your carburetor, THAT WILL GO BAD IN 60 DAYS.!!
dusle, i'd just run it,+ not look back,.. but if you're that concerned about it, mix it 50/50 with fresh gas,+ GO for it....

I agree with you bond-o if it looks like gas and smells like gas it is gas. Engines are not that picky unless it smells like varnish. dont be wasteful, if your concerned burn it in your mower thier like Mikey. I was once stuck with 20 gallons on #1 kerosene, burn't it all up in my lawn tractor...it did'nt know the difference! Of cause I started it on a little gas first. Also used it in a Ford truck...I actually think it ran better!
