Re: How to do jumper for 1970 Johnson
I definently dont want to be a giant girl, but when I did this method very large sparks every time, is this correct? I just want to make sure so I dont fry something. I may just make the remote start so I dont have to worry about it. I obviously need to reinforce my motor stand also cause just trying to start, it wants to drive right off my stand.
Yes, expect large sparks when doing that. Us old guys do that all the time, but it is NOT the best way or the safest way. In fact, it can do serious damage. I do not recommend it.
The remote starter button is a great way, but you can do the same thing with a piece of wire. Connect one end of the wire to the battery + terminal, and touch the other end to the small terminal on the solenoid that has a white wire coming from the key switch. That, too, will make a small spark if you don't make a quick, firm contact. NOTE: The other small terminal on the solenoid is either grounded, or goes to a safety switch. You MUST NOT connect your jumper or remote start switch to the safety switch, if it has one. It will instantly destroy the switch if you do. You cannot disconnect it fast enough to prevent destruction.
