i live in phx az, and the fishing here is tuff because of the water run off from up north and the extremely high heats... but the reports say "drop shot " is working well in the 15-30ft depth

so my question is...

how do you rig a " drop shot " ???

if any one knows or has pics that would be great... thanks

Basically, its a technique where you tie your hook with a long tag line to which you attach a weight. I use a bell sinker and a small hook. Set the length between the weight and the hook depending on how deep the fish are suspending. If you're in 20' of water and the fish are at 10' , put the weight 10' below the hook. Nose hook a small plastic worm and fish the rig vertically. Its a finesse tactic so go slow. Use the rod tip to slowly make the bait wiggle, then set still.

A 7' spinning set up with 8lb clear line works well.

experiment with different small plastics, worms, grubs, and minnows are most often used.

All good advise above. One trick I do is use brightly colored Jighead instead of a weight. You would be surprised at how many fins I hooked on the jighead.

Nice site info dan, I fish ultra clear water that is deep so I like to cast but the line will twist up after a while. Think I'll try a swivel above the hook idea.

Re: how to drop shot???

ok...

well i tried the drop shot technique, but as usual , the conditions must not have been right, because no one i saw, and myself were catching any fish...

i did catch a 3 small lg mouth bass on a cast master...

but that was it...

i will try it again next time... but unlike your guys' lakes,, out here we got to work for our bass...lol

thanks for all the great tips...

It is a fairly new technique, It comes from either Japan or out west some where but has been landing some nice fish during slow bites. I still have not mastered it although I have have some success here.
