the islander I looked at today was told to me to be in the late 60's....but they guy hasnt pulled out the paper work yet and went and looked the boat over today to figure what length axels to buy.

the serial # is 956801 it is on a plate next to the steering wheel on the gunnel and it says the boat is an Islander I/O . made in Goshen Ind.
it will hold 10 people or 2000 lbs

thast really all the plate says

no HULL ID

the motor is an inline 6 cylinder with a mercruiser tag thats says its made by, KIEKHAEFER mercury.

i am waiting for my pictures to load..and my GF just showed up and she wants me to get off the computer ha ha ha

the boat is over 21 feet...maybe 21' 4" its hard to measure with the windshield

Does your Islander have a small plate on back of the boat. Upper right corner as your looking at the rear end. There's a hull number there sometimes that might give some help. It will look like this. It was on a 72' Islander I parted out.

This is a picture of my ID plate. The 66 in the serial # was the year.

the upper tag seems to say your boat is a 1972.....my 1981 starcraft 180SS had a tag like that. I cant see on your other tag where the 66 is.... the 4th and 3rd from the end??...that would signify mine as a 1968

Re: how to figure the year of manufacture based on the boats SERIAL number

The bottom picture is the tag from my 66' Nassau - The serial number on the right in that picture is 66 (space) 4912 (P.O. had title & registration to go with it). The first two numbers I assumed was the year. So if you have a tag like the bottom picture, and the first two numbers are 68, it would make sense that the boat is a 68'.

The top picture from the rear 72 Islander, also had a tag in the boat but not like the Nassau's tag it was different, unfortunately I did not photograph that one and I can't remember what was on it (had title and registration for that one too).

Hope I was able to help.

Hi,

The steel tag that has been shown you is (I believe), a hull identificaiton number, which is only available on post 1972 boats. Hull identification numbers began to berequired in that year. The Starcraft plate you have has a serial number on the boat, which if I understand correctly, was a unique number to starcraft. If you don't have a HIN, it may mean that it has been removed, or, more likely, that your boat is pre-1972. That's the best I can do to help.

Best regards,

Peter

This is an old thread and the Mods frown on bringing old threads back to live, except by the original poster. Also this has been resolved in another thread by the OP. I know you're trying to help but the best thing to do is PM the OP. Thanks.
