Got them depressed. Just took a little more force than I had thought.

Well I got them on and they look good, I'll see how well they work this weekend. Today I remembered a problem the tilt has. It leaks down overnight and if I trailer the boat for a hour or so the motor leaks down a pretty good ways (I have a motor support now so I don't have to worry about it dragging). Anyway, would this cause me problems too.

??? Tilt = Trim ??? Is there a difference?

Yes!

Back in the day there were 2 options on some motors..."Power Tilt" and "Power Trim & Tilt".

The former relied on a tilt pin and when it was down it was on the pin. There was no in-between.

The difference between "tilt" and "trim" is very big. Tilt is used when tilting the motor up to the raised position such as when you want the engine out of the water. It is fast and does not have a lot of power. Trim on the other hand is slow and has a LOT of power- you use it when you are raising the engine bit by bit to achieve the best angle of attack while you are running. While the mechanism is the same the two things are very different.

If the engine drops down overnight then your tilt cylinder is leaking somewhere. The only problem it would cause would the engine dropping down and you forgetting about it and hitting something with it.

Got the boat in the water today and I must say WOW!!! The Smart Tabs made a huge difference, it's like having a completely different boat. Now I just need a bow mount trolling motor and a pair of battery boxes.
