While a dwell meter is better I agree, you can install them with a set of feeler gauges as well. You install the points and turn the engine over till the "rubbing block" (D in the picture below) of the points is on the high side of the distributor shaft. (Not as difficult as it sounds). Then adjust the opening at the appropriate clearance. (Not sure of the specs - probably around 19 thousandths). You will need to time the engine after setting the points.
After doing that, throw the points away and buy a kit from pertronix and replace your points with electronic ignition.
