Hey everyone,
I have a 1978 140hp(140843c) that idles to high (about 1100rpm when warmed up), and I would like to Lower that number.

I've performed a link and sync, the butterfly's are closed when in neutral, the timing has been adjusted, it's runs perfect when in gear(about 750 rpm all the way through to wot), the carbs have fixed jets and there doesn't seem to be a idle stop screw/bolt.

How would I Lower my idle?

Thanks in advance,

-M

At idle the carb butterflys should be closed on that engine. The idle is set by adjusting the idle timing, not by adjusting anything on the carb. If you disconnect the throttle cable at the engine end, you should be able to backoff the large idle screw on the spark advance lever. This will reduce the engine timing and should bring the idle down. You want to see 650-700 rpm's-set when the boat is floating in the lake, with the engine running and in forward gear. Once you adjust the timing, you may need to readjust the throttle cable slightly before you bolt it back on the spark advance lever. You can't set idle timing when the boat is on the trailer.
