I have a 1980 100hp Evinrude in a 1981 Sea Sprite 16ft ski boat. I am new to boating and when I bought the boat the guy said to mix 50:2. I have read different post saying its fine with 50:1. So my question is the I think I have a 30 gallon tank but, I am not sure how much oil I would add. Also I wanted to know since I don't have a removeable tank will I still have to premix with another tank or could I just fill half gas add oil then fill to max with gas?. Thanks and I hope this makde sense for someone to be able to answer.

what i do with a built in tank, is try to figure how much fuel you need. say you calculate you need 15 gallons, i out oil for 10 gallons in, then 10 gallons of fuel. check fuel guage, then calculate again. with that size tank, if the fuel is not going to be use up in month, add stabil to the fuel, for how much fuel is in the tank.

Your fuel mix ratio is 50:1 not 50:2. This equates to one pint of TCW3 two stroke oil in 6 gallons of fuel. So add fuel in six gallon increments. A one pint of oil followed by six gallons of fuel. Add one pint and another six gallons. You can simply add the oil and add the fuel. The minute you wiggle the boat the fuel and oil will mix.

You'll get 12 gal of gas to one quart of oil, show when you gas up just keep a quart with you and add accordingly.

The oil will mix in no problem as the fuel goes in. Best guess scenario for the oil to begin with and you will get better at guesstimating the more you do it. Just make certain that you do not underdo the oil. A little extra smoke is better than a fried motor !!!

Thank you all for the great feedback. Well I guess I have another question, I am trying to get all the great inside information as I am VERY New to boating. I was wondering if there were any service type manuals that would give me maintance and upkeep information. I basically want to keep my 100hp Evinrude running nice and smooth and be able to tell when there is a problem. Thank you all again.

You can easily get a service manual for your motor that will detail any needed repair and up keep. I consider the manual a must have item.

The OEM manual is said to be the best one.

The service manual is great for doing repairs. However, it gives very little information for daily use and general maintenance. That is covered in the Owners Manual. Both are available from www.outboardbooks.com

Go to your local OMC/BRP dealer or marine store and buy a mixing bottle. It will have markings on the side for a variety of mix ratios, including the 50:1 ratio for your motor.

I don't bother with trying to figure things out before hand - I keep my tanks topped off and fill until I can hear the gas approaching the top of the tank, through the filler neck. I keep a wood dipstick in the boat and use it to double check fuel level. Once I am satisfied that I am nearly full on that tank, I just look at the pump to see how many gallons I put in it, and add the appropriate amount of oil. Since my boat is a trailer boat, I don't worry about the oil mixing properly - a few miles of driving in stop and go traffic mixes it just fine.

I like this system so well, that I actually have about 15 mixing bottles. They cost about 5 bucks each, but I just bought them over time. I also buy my oil from the local OMC/BRP dealer in bulk, so I keep the bottles filled with enough oil for 12 gallons of gas (my saddle tanks are 12 gallons each) and store them on a rack in my workshop. When I go out in the boat, I just put a couple of bottles under one of my seats and I'm all set.

I think you will find that you will develop a system that works for you and the process will be easy from that point on. Welcome to boating - its a great hobby!

I just put 2.6 oz of oil per 1 gal of gas. If i pump 1o gallon og gas I put 26 oz of oil. That is easy enough for me.
