I thought the mixture screw was actually capped. Nothing came up on the search here. Where are guys with the newer 3.0's setting theirs?

I first removed the front brass plug. It looked like an emulsion tube inside there. Whoops! I replugged and painted.

Isn't the mixture screw plugged?

Let's start with what engine you're working on (serial number preferred, Year will suffice if no serial number)... 3.0litre engine started in 1968 and are still current.... and which carburettor (2 different ones are used)...

07 3.0 L, Gen 2 Carb I believe.

Numbers on carb as follows:

866140001
33 6809

I just figured it out. The spring loaded adjuster requiring the "special tool". I read numerous places this was factory capped. Hell, you don't really even need the special tool if you have the carb off.

I was messing with the brass plug on the front of the carb. Crap. No worries, it will be like new now that the I have the carb off.

I'm trying to richen up the pilot circuit just a bit. This Cali emissions is for the birds.

Okay, so mine was set about 2 turns out. The manual I have (Service Manual #41) says 3 1/8 turns out. And these are gas screws correct? Not air screws, so out would be richer.

Any thoughts? If not, I think I'll just start with the factory recommendation.

Ayuh,... The setting listed in the manual is a Startin' point, only...

Right. Started the boat in the drive today and ran great. I know, the true test will be in the water. Hopefully by the time I do that I'll have the mixture screw tool.

Now if I could just figure out how to drain this gas tank.
