Re: How to move a boat to work on hull
i recently moved mine off it's trailer...first time doing it....you can see some of the blocking i did in my resto thread...
but basically...
lower the tongue all the way...this raises the back of the boat...
put block under the keel at the transom, and block at the outer corners near the transom...all the weight should be supported at the keel...the outer blocks are to keep the boat from tipping over...
once you start raising the tongue of the trailer...the rear of the boat will lift off the trailer and fully supported by your blocking..
then, using a floor jack placed under the keel near the front of the keel before it begins sloping up, i raised the front of the boat and placed blocking there, then pulled the trailer out slowly, until the first set of cross members of the trailer met up with the blocking. put your jack on the other side of the crossmeber of the trailer and jack the boat up just enough to remove the blocking in the front...slowly pull the trailer out a little more until you have clearance to put the blocking back...then lower and remove the jack...repeat this process until you are completely clear of the trailer.
once completely clear of the trailer, add extra blocking on the outer edges of the hull to prevent tipping...
KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS TO YOU AND THE BOAT IF IT SLIPS OR YOUR BLOCKING ISN'T LEVEL...HAVE SEVERAL PEOPLE AVAILABLE TO HELP AND GUIDE YOU...OR TO DIAL 911
if you read the beginning of my thread, i talk about how my boat slipped off the jack and almost tumble over
