how to remove a prop shaft seal

i am overhauling my lower unit on a 1984 johnson 25hp outboard, J25tecrd and i am having troble removeing the prop shaft seal form the head assy i have a new inner and outer seal on the way is there a tool out for this or some kind of trick any help

yes there is a tool...I am not sure where to get one..try your local outboard repair shop..or maybe someone here knows where to order one...i have used a flywheel puller (harbor freight tools)with 2 long eye bolts. if its not real stuck that will do ya.

If you talking about removing the seals, you can drive them out from the back by using a long punch and sticking it through the middle of the bearing housing. I've also used just a plain seal puller, looks like a hook on the end of a handle.

if you use the fly wheel puller you will need 2 - 3/8x8" eye bolts and washers..I will try to post a pic of my set up tomorrow. You have to open the eye bolts up slightly to hook onto the carrier. It will work if the carrier is not hard stuck. You can try spaying some penetrating oil towards the back of the carrier to help some.
