How to remove bimini pole ends?

I need to replace the ends on my bimini poles.It has the stainless pressed in ends on it.It looks like some type of compression tool was used to make a ring around the pole to hold the ends in. I found the new ends with the same ring indentation around it.How do i get the old ones off?

never ran into that. i just use the ones with set screw on the side.

There are two types of compression tools to attatch the ends. Sounds like you have the ones that are harder to remove. The ones that are easy have a couple little dimples that you can drill out.Are you shortening the poles?

I don't want to make them shorter.I thought about cutting a slit in them with a dremmel but then i would have to drill and thru bolt them.I tried pulling them out with vice grips but no luck.. found the replacements but thought they should be able to be replaced..

You can cut the other ones off flush with the ends of the tube and buy the type that slip over the tubing and use a set screw.

there's only an inch in the socket, cutting and using the ones with the set screw, won't make a difference. just tighten up the straps. i took the highboy, like yours off the center console and cut 20 inches off the long leg to make to top for the duracraft.

This is the factory top for the ChrisCraft.I think if i shorten them it will throw off how it fits to the sides and windsheild.It snaps in both places.I think i will cut the ends off and use the ones that go over the tubes.That way the height is the same..
