its 1 and 7/16 thin wall
you can take a beach towel and put around flywheel and hold it
you may want to lap your flywheel before ya put it back .
i also use new key .check your magnets while its off to see if any are loose

yes, i was going to take it to a machine shop to have it lapped.

also, the reason i have to pull it off is because one of the magnets came off.

Guys just had the same issue.

You need the 17/16 1/2 drive sears online order only. Th one in the stores is 3/4.

Best bet is getting a snap on or mac that what I did.

cool. thanks for that follow-up. the one i bought there is for a 3/4" drive.

that makes sense.

the stator was damaged too by the magnet coming off while the engine was still running.

i bought a used stator off of ebay and repaired my flywheel. i took the boat out for about 8 hours this weekend and she ran like a champ (stator is definitely putting out good voltage too).
