Ok,

I have a mid 70s Merc. Thunderbolt. I am trying to remove it to put it on another hull with no success.

I have been surfing threads about this, and everyone makes it seem very easy.

Step one trace it is the where it conects, and disconnect it.

I have traced both the throttle and shifting cables in, and they both goes in through a small upright cylinders that are attached to a spring i have attached pictures. the perpendicular to where the throttle and steering cables go in, is a stob that sticks out slightly towards the side of the motor that has a small pin through it. It looks like i would have to punch that pin out, to loosen it up to pull it out.

Once it goes throught this upright cylinder, it goes into a plastic sleeve. and attaches to the throttle and shifting linkage.

I understand that i should follow it to the end to unattach it from both the linkage and the throttle. My problems is A) that i cant reach either one of the ends of the cables, because the are sunk down below where you open the cowling. and B) even if i unattached them at the ends, i still have to figure a way to un attach them from the cylinders at the front.

I need in depth instructions.

Please help

Re: How to remove throttle cable

Take a look at the pic I attached. The lever goes down and then rotates which reorients the little pin so it lines up with the slot in the cable barrel and can then be removed.

Re: How to remove throttle cable

Is that it? or are there more screws that attach them to the throttle and shifting linkage?

Thank you very much for taking the time to help out.
