how to remove upper gear case vp dp-c2

i have a 95 vp dp-c2 drive i am trying to replace the uj started making a growling thumping noise over the fourth only when turning or triming up does this sound like uj's the real question i have is that i have the bolts removed but the upper wont come off is there something i missed or could sw corrosion keep it stuck also i havent removed the shift cable just the linkage to the actual shift mechanism on the gearcase does it have too come completly off thanks in advance

Salt water corrosion can glue them on. Have a look at this link for removing the upper gear box.

I have had to put a bar on top of the shift cable (The stainless part) where it goes into the drive and pry up on the gear box and it comes loose. Just don't get to carried away or you will damage the cable.

thanks Don i have everything romoved as per instructions i guess prying is my next step if i can not get it loose how hard is it to remove the whole drive to go after the uj's thanks for your help

If you are having problems getting just the upper off, the complete drive will probably be a real PAIN.
