I try to give something back to forums I use. Many people appreciate simple photo illustrations for "how do I....?" Here is a little pictorial on removing V4 crossflow carbs. in eight steps. The repair manual is likely better, but for those web surfers contemplating doing it themselves and who do not have a repari manual I thought this might provide some confidence that it is a pretty straightforward job to remove the carbs.

Step 1. remove 6 bolts from intake cover shown with red on photo

step 2: remove these six bolts (shown in yellow) four holding intake to carbs and two in lower left are holding throttle and shift linkage to intake.

Step 3: Remove two bolts (shown in yellow circles) holding choke solenoid to intake, the bracket (yellow arrow) comes off the solenoid which allows you to remove the plunger.

the plunger for the choke comes out of the solenoid, see the two arrows here, the lower arrow showing plunger and upper arrow shows solenoid with plunger removed. The plunger has a ridge and the solenoid has a groove so that plunger can only go back in one way (take note for reassembly).

Step 4: Remove little hose from lower inside edge of port side of intake (on the inside of intake facing power head) shown in yellow. I used a long needle nose pliers to get if off.

Step 5: Remove the intake manifold, this is what you should see, notice the I left the choke solenoid plunger dangling from the upper carb (yellow arrow)

Step 6: Remove the two linkages that connect the two carbs to each other. The are attached at four connections points (yellow circles and arrow) remove by gently pressing the linkage towards the carb body (see yellow arrow in second pic) until it pops out of plastic retaining clip. (see second photo)

step 7: With the linkages removed, you can now remove the four bolts holding each carb to the power head. The lower bolts are a little tight quarters and require the open end of a box wrench, turn it as much as you can the flip the wrench over to change angle of wrench approach to rotate next amount, and repeat. alternately flipping the wrench to change approach angle

step 8: Remove fuel supply hose from the bottom of each carb, OEM uses plastic zip tie like plastic clips, I snipped those off with a flat nose wire snippers and replaced with the metal hose clamp you see in the pic

Carbs can now be removed!!
