How to reposition lift rams

Last Fall I took off the outdrive to store indoors. Looks like the PO had the gimbal and Ujoints replaced which was a huge unknown for me buying it used and the dealership refused to give me any info from the service records.

but my question is this. While the drive was off, the rams shifted. The port shortened and starboard lengthened. How do I get them back inline now the drive is reinstalled. They are fixed and wont move either way. I hung the drive on the longer ram hoping it would compress over time. I didnt want to open a line and risk air getting in. I would appreciate some advice on this.

thanks

Turn key on, press drive down to retract rams. Press drive up to extend

As above. They will act weird until any air is purged. Once retracted evenly hook them to unit.

Looks like I will need to install the battery for this. I did try to compress the piston with a ratchet strap but it would not budge. Thanks. I know what needs to be done now.

You can't move them from outside because of the load holding check valves

I put the battery back in, powered it down and got the pin back in and its done. Thanks again

I saw a post by Chris where he added a trim switch on the stern. That looks like an awesome idea. That would come in handy while on the water as well.

Trim switch on the. transom is one of the best upgrades I did. So convenient.

IDK . . . When I have re-installed the outdrives on my boat, the trim rams have usually shifted. I get the more extended ram loosely attached to the end pin and let the weight of the outdrive 'push' the other ram outward. Once they are even, I slide the end pin all the way through the other ram. Done.
