Depends on your remote control. Some have a separate lever for idle (cold start add), some have only one lever. The one-lever type should have a pushbutton on the lever that will disengage the gear cable - thus being throttle only.<br /><br />Once back in neutral the gear cable is engaged again.<br /><br />The remote box could have two separate levers for gear and throttle in which case the throttle is normally resticted somewhat when gear is not engaged - to prevent overrevving the no load. Haven't seen many of this kind with Merc, though.
