A neighbor gave us a 12 ft. Montgomery Ward Sea King aluminum boat before he passed away.

There aren't any identifying marks to indicate registration.

Is there anything needed to sell this boat ?

Depends 100% what state you live in. Other states have different regulations.

Ask the license, title, registration, DNR, Fish and Wildlife or DMV, whoever handles boats for your state

Small enough that in some states it never required registration if it wasn't used with an outboard or trolling motor. That helps.

TX its 14 ft or less. No motor and you don't have to register.
Then you (or the buyer) go tell the TX parks and wildlife (where boats are registered) you are adding a trolling motor to an ancient rowboat that has never had a serial number or title. They'll tell you what you need to do.
(They make you get a title for a $30 inflatable if you add a trolling motor.. so they have a way to deal with things that have no serial number)

Bill of sale would cover it for TX.

Other states vary...

All you need is a buyer. I think the posted info above regarding registration, title, is for buyers, not sellers.

If my state requires title/reg for a small boat, I cant buy it and comply, so I'd want the SELLER to provide legal proof of ownership, what ever that is for HIS state because my state (Most? Some anyway) will work with that, even if my state requires different stuf, as long as the sellers state rules are meet....

Or at least thats been my experience here in WV, OPs state may be different.

IMO, the onus of compliance is something a buyer should know, but a seller must supply..
