Hi

I need to know how to service a Evinrude Fisherman?

It hasn't been used in 4 years but has been dry stored. I'm guessing clean spark plugs, clean carb with carb cleaner etc??

I'm also interested to know the exact fuel mix to use, I've seen 50:1 and 100:1 mentioned?

Are there any performance upgrades that can be done? Better air filter, upgraded carb?

Any advice will be amazing, I'm new to boating so go easy!

There is no air filter! Get yourself an OEM shop manual. It will answer almost all of your questions. If the motor is newer than mid 65's, 50:1 gas to TCW3 oil mixture is needed. Forget 100:1, that was an OMC mistake and was quickly retracted.

Fuel mix 50:1 for all models since 1964 ( even those produced in the 1980s that were sold as 100:1 motors )

See http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/Owners-Center/FAQ/OilAndFuel

Regarding routine servicing, that is covered by the owners manual.

Re-awakening a mototor that has not been used for a number of years is covered by an item on the Engine FAQs board, see: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086

BTW it does not have an air filter, just a silencer box... outboards are not designed to be used on dusty roads!

Thanks! Is there a free service guide available online anywhere?

Can someone provide a link to the best place to purchase if I can get a free copy!

Regarding the Air Filter...see told you I was new to boating!

Any thoughts on performance upgrades?

First of all, welcome to forum!!! Nice to have new members

In order to get more precise information, please list

Year of motor
Horse power of motor
Model/Serial number of motor. (numbers located on a metal plate just below the tiller handle are there about.

And if your new to outboards and repair, wilde1j gave excellent advice about getting a service manual specific to your motor. They have all the specifications for oil and maintaince that include diagram and step by step instructions.

But list your information about your motor and someone should be able to get you started in the right direction.

Look at these links....Good information here.

Hope this helps some.

Can you get upgraded propellers that improve performance?

I'll check serial number tomorrow and then hopefully I can get detailed info on getting this outboard running like a dream!!!

If you want more performance, buy a bigger motor!

No 'free' manuals.

I've seen several links for service manuals that can be purchased however not sure what's the best one to get?

Also I'm based in the UK, any recommend a supplier over here?

No substitue for the manufacturers manauls. Third party manuals cover too many models from too many years.

Ken Cook for official manuals ... at a price ! Assume they will ship to UK
www.outboardbooks.com

Spares in the UK :

"Oakley Marine" aka "Outboards Direct" in Brighton

"Willsmarine" in Kingsbridge Devon

Both good. Google will find.

For good boating advice as well as a bit of chit chat in the UK http://www.ybw.com/forums/
