Before you chuckle, I am still a newbie....I am working on a 1972 Evinrude 50272C, 50 hp, 2 cylinder. Where do you hook up the gear controls???

Unless I am mistaken that is an electric shift and you don't hook up a shift control cable. It takes a push-button control and it's done by wire.

blue and green. It sounds like you are stumbling around in the dark, trying to cobble something up without the proper remote control. Am I reading you right? Good way to get into trouble.

yeah your right....poor man, got the motor for 100 bucks....

I have a green, blue and a grey and a purple . Do you know if the push buttons are momentary or "click" on and off? Also, do they use a common ground, which is forward and which is reverse and neutral? Is it in neutral by default? Anyone.....

NO power it is in forward.. Also need a set of monkey balls in the control to keep the motor from jamming into forward when you kill it. monkey balls are a dioid one in the controler and one in the motor.

dsinger,

Thanks. I don't think I can make any monkey balls for the controller...don't have enough info.

Speaking of monkey, if you are going to be monkeying around with this thing get a service manual. It is too complicated to explain one step at a time over this forum. I know they sell them here at iboats. You can also get a genuine factory service manual reprint at http://www.kencook.com/evinrudejohnsonmanuals/ It has a very good wiring diagram and explains how everything works.
