Rain? It rains down there?

Is the the engine completely removed from the boat?

If it is start it like any other engine sitting on an engine stand or pallet etc.

If the drive is off, connect a water hose up to the gimbal mount at #19 below, and turn on the water.

It should put enough water into the engine and manifolds to run it at idle.

get some sort of fitting or use rope/wire to hold the hose in place so someone doesn't have to stand back there and become woozy from breathing all the exhaust!!!

Re: how to start '90 omc cobra while its out of boat

Hello again. Sorry its been so long, been raining and no time. The motor is out of the boat on a stand. Fuel and water supply are hooked up. I have both battery cables hooked up to charged battery. I have a cable from + side of coil to + side of battery. I know theres suppose to be a wire from - side of coil to distributor, but where on the distributer? Thanks for all your help.

Well, it depends on what kind of ignition it is. If it has points, there's going to be one wire at the dist. That one goes to the minus side of the coil.

Yours probably has some sort of electronic ignition. Maybe the following pic can help.......well maybe not......

Does your dist look like the one below?

If the above is yours, there should only be one wire on the dist. The one that goes to the points/condenser. You'll also have an ESA (Electronic Shift Assist) module installed. you could disconnect/bypass it for testing and just run the negative lead of the coil directly to the dist if all you want to do is run the engine on the stand.

Some engines of that year had the Spitfire and some didn't. You need to find a correct-year service manual if you don't have one. That will have the correct wiring schematic

That isn't a Spitfire ignition is it? (if it is, I feel for you)
