How to take the lower unit off

I am working on a 1957 Evinrude Fastwin 18 Hp. I am currently in the proccess of taking the powerhead off so I can take it apart. At the same time I want to take the lower unit off. Any suggestions on how I do this?

open the side plate on the lower housing and unbolt the shift rod
