Hello again,
I have a 1968 GM 250ci l6 160hp. I know I need to rebuild the carb, but after reading other threads its very important to have a marine carb. I am not sure if this is a marine carb or not. The boat is older than me and I have only had it for 2 years. Before I go to rebuild, I just want to make sure I have the correct carb to start with.

Its a Rochester 2 jet
The numbers on the side read just like this:

7028188
347 8 1

I cannot find any other markings. I see variations of 7028188 that can be for boat or car....please see pic attached. Is this a marine carb?

Can't help you with carb question auto/marine but I can tell you about something to check. Same carb on my boat and had problem with small fuel leak. Turns out wear often causes play to develop in throttle rod and repair is tricky-sent my carb out for exchange with rebuilt unit and leak gone.

Post a picture of the top of the carb. Automotive carbs are externally vented Marine carbs are not. But the same kit will work for either.

Here is the pic anyway....you can see how bad I overheated her. The manifold has a nice coat of surface rust..

The fuel line is not marine approved. i don't see any fuel pump vent line to the carb, but may be hidden in back of pic.

I will add a few clearer pics this afternoon of the entire carb regarding the vent line. Maybe you can tell me if everything else looks ok.
Thanks!

That looks like a marine carb to me, big thing is if the fuel bowl is vented down the throat of the carb, or vented outside the carb. I don't see a vent outside the carb. The tube pointing up, and going into the throat of the carb, that's the bowl vent.

The fuel line is not marine approved. i don't see any fuel pump vent line to the carb.

Good call on the non-marine fuel hose, but there won't be a fuel pump vent hose, too old. I'd replace it with a metal fuel line (brake line) or A1 rated marine fuel hose. Also, you want to double clamp all fuel hose connections. On a boat, leaking fuel isn't an annoyance, it's very dangerous, could cause an explosion.

What's up with the spark arrestor (air cleaner, not really) center bolt bracket, that wire bracket on top of the carb that's all mangled and bent. No way that's working to hold the spark arrestor on since the center hole is not pointing straight up,,, and no bolt installed in it. I suspect you don't have a spark arrestor on the carb, correct?

Do you have a picture of the fuel pump? I'm curious to see if it's a marine pump or an automotive pump.
