How to tell if I have a marine carb?

I bought 1987 Bayliner trophy as a project boat. I am not sure if it has a marine carb on it. The carb is a rochester quadrajet but it does not have a j tube. Do all marine carbs use a j tube? Where te J tube should go its like a normal angles piece tube but right below it it looks like the casting of the carb is designed to drain back into the venturi. I have not seen that on a normal auto carb.

Normally the carb would have a J tube if it was marine... give us the casting numbers and we will tell you what it is..

Do all marine carbs have j tubes ? Mine doesn't ... It's a Holley 4150 on my 78 Gulf Stream with a 302 ford and omc outdrive ... And does it need it. ?

Post a picture of your carb, looking down from above. Some are hard to tell if marine or not.

No, not all carbs have J tubes. But all Holley marine carbs do.

Yes, that is a marine carb. The tube with the angle cut on it aimed toward the choke plate is from the bowl, and the little tray also helps divert any gas to the inside of the carb. There is also the fitting above the fuel inlet that should have a clear hose going to it that goes to the mechanical fuel pump. Marine fuel pumps have a fitting on it for a clear hose too. That way if the fuel pump diaphragm should rupture the fuel would go into the carb and not the bilge.

On another subject, is your fuel inlet hose. Is that 3/8" ID Type A1 fuel hose? It sure doesn't look like it. Wouldn't pass the fire code if it's not.
The big thing is if it's 3/8 or not. You don't want to go smaller on an IO engine.

Awesome. THats very good news! I wondered because I ran the casting numbers and it came back as a truck carb. Yes that is USCG AI hose. I just bought it and my uncle just rebuilt the carb is why it looks new. It was black. Thanks for all the info!

You faired better than I did. In the end I BELIEVE mine is half and half; the main assembly is auto and the top portion is marine with the tube to handle overflow. I bought a marine rebuild kit and only half of it worked.
