I have a 4.3 liter and was wondering if there is any way to test a ignition coil.

Re: How to test a coil?

Another question ,does a boat require more fuel in gear than out of gear in nuetral? Im going to check the pressure on my fuel pump and see if thats it, If I remember right I believe it should have 7lbs of pressure.

--------------------
Jake
What was the results of this test?

Jake your problem sounds like a fuel supply problem.

Re: How to test a coil?

Jake, The classic test for any ignitiion coil is:
No continuity between primary winding and coil case
No continuity between secondary winding (distributor High Voltage connection) and coil case.

Very little resistance (1 ohm) across primary winding

More resistance (Dependent on exact coil under test, but not infinite resistance) from plus side of primary winding to secondary winding.

Also check it hot since sometimes a coil will fail only after heating up.
