How to Test Alarm

Hey Gang,<br /><br />I am having my 130 Evinrude get new T-Stats and Pluggs currently. I had a problem last season that the alarm would go off and I would have to let it cool down. I would pull off cover and touch heads to see if they were really hot. That is when the alarm would sound so I could shut it down. <br /><br />Question: After they replace the stats can I check if horn works some how? Don't want to overheat her and if horn is out I will be S.O.L.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Tex

Hey Tx,If your engine year model is equipped with a self test alarm ,you should get a short tone when the key is turned on.If your setup does not have the self test alarm, with the key in the "on" position ,ground the tan wire from one of the temp sensors in the heads to the engine metal and the alarm should sound.You can ground the tan wire by backprobing its connector with a test lead. <br /><br />If it hasn't been changed in the last two seasons ,I'd consider having a new waterpump installed as well.

Hey Ob,<br /><br />Thanks, It's a 96' model and I do hear a soft tone when I turn the key forward and then start engine. Yes, I have already changed water pump and impeller last season in Oct. Oh by the way any secret fishing holes other than Shamrock Cove?<br /><br />Chris's Marine is doing the work currently any feedback on that?<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Tex

Not familiar with Chris' Marine.I could tell you some other hotspots for reds but then I'd have to kill you. Just kidding.Actually Shamrock and Laguna Madre just south of Pure Oil channel has treated me pretty good for most outings.I love to fish the back side of St Jose Island at the end of the Lydia Anne channel whenever we are game to drive to Port A to launch.Have a good one.
