Ok, I think I have found the wire I am supposed to test but, I don't understand how to test it. I found that I should test the brown wire and I don't get how to test the connection for ohm I know how to use the DVM but where do I test the wire at as for as being not very easy to test. I took the flywheel of and I see the brown wire but I don't know how to get to it to test. Any help would be great.

Thanks
Wade

Re: How to test stator

There are 2 brown wires, check ohms , between the 2 brown wires, check for short to ground either brown wire, and output at cranking rpms between the 2 brown wires. This only a guess, you didnot list the make model of engine in post.

It is a 1985 60hp VRO. I understand that I need to check them but were do I check them at? Do I cut the wire or is there somewhere I can put the probs of the DVM ground I know put + I don't know where to put the tip of the prob?

Thanks

I will be in Labelle next week for about 2 hours. Install the flywheel, have the boat in the shade, with a fully charged battery, and I will donate 45 minutes. 850 319 9663.
