How to troubleshoot esa circuit

I have 1984 omc 3.8.Need help to find out if I have bad esa or switch.Boat will not run with grey wires attached to coil.

The grey wires are tach input and esa output. Reconnect the grey wires to coil and disconnect the esa output plug, does boat run? If no tach or wiring shorted. If yes then reconnect esa output and disconnect esa input, does boat run? If no esa is fault. If yes switch is fault. Good luck

Check the wire that runs between the starter solenoid and the coil (I think it is purple). This supplies 12v to the coil when starting. The ESA may be drawing too much power. Also, try running a wire between the positive side of the coil and the battery.
