What do you mean "Un seize" Is it rusted into a fixed position, or is something stopping the revolution of the crank?

Either way, sounds like rebuild time. Take it out and start the teardown...

I'm thinking we would need quite a bit more information before we could give you any real help. But like everyone else is saying, looks like tear it down till ya find the problem.

I was thinking pull plugs look for rust add ATF AND ACETONE let sit try with breaker bar on crank nut. They said it just had been siting up but ran fine before. Hopefully that will do.

I think that's a good start. It will let you know what you're actually dealing with. Be patient and let it soak good.

You've potentially got 8 pistons frozen to the cylinder walls. i doubt the breaker bar approach will do it. You oughta tear it down.

If, however, you want to experiment and just see if it'll run, the following usually works:

- Pull the plugs and liberally spray penetrating oil in the cylinders
- Slide a wooden dowel or padded metal bar down through the plug holes. One cylinder at a time, use a hammer on the bar to bang on the top of the piston.
- Repeat daily for a week, then try the crank nut thing.

I guess that you can't hurt anything by trying that. Usually if the rings rusted and froze up the motor when you do get them to turn over there is a problem with either breaking a ring or they smoke pretty bad from scoring the cylinder walls. Good luck..

Sounds to me like a perfect excuse for a new motor.

Good luck.

I would try LOTS of penetrating oil in the spark plug holes and let it sit a day.Come back the next day and use a large breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt on the balancer.

I would NOT recommend putting something down a spark plug hole and hammering on it!!

FWIW during my recent rebuild I had enough water intrusion to rust the rings solid to some of the pistons but not to the walls.

Even if you free it up my guess is the rings at a minimum will be junk.

ATF or penetrating oil in the cylinders let it soak. DO NOT hammer on anything!! If you go in thru the plug holes with a dowel or anything, chances are you'll just be hammering on the cylinder wall anyway.

I noticed that you are aware of the superior effects of the ATF/acetone mix for releasing 'stuck' parts!

From a machinist's magazine bench test:

Penetrating oil ..... Average load*
None ............ ......... 516 pounds
WD-40 ............ ...... 238 pounds
PB Blaster ............ . 214 pounds
Liquid Wrench ..... 127 pounds
Kano Kroil ............ 106 pounds
ATF-Acetone mix....53 pounds

*The ATF-Acetone mix was a "home brew" mix of
50 - 50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone.*

Happy boating!

Now that's some usefull information! Thanks for that. I'm suprised about PB Blaster. I've always believed in that stuff. If I read the chart right the lower the load the more effective the release fluid was . Right?

I had an engine that seized and I couldn't break it free, can't even pull the reciprocating assembly apart if it's seized, I had to actually beat the pistons out with a hammer one by one little by little while turning the crank, it really sucked, had to sleeve 3 cylinders and buy new pistons, it was a 4blt main 429 V8.

Right...load=force needed to 'release' the lab samples.

Just be careful where the acetone gets (paint, etc.)!

Happy boating!

Back in my day when Men were Men and sheep were nervous. (And diesel was 99 cents a gallon) I used to put block into a 55 gallon drum and fill it up with diesel fuel until fully submerged for a week. Worked perfect every time...

I bought a car that sat for probably 4to5 years (only had 9000 miles on it). Took all the spark plugs out and dribbled atf into them and poured some down the carb. After letting it settle and replacing the fuel filter and pump the dang thing started. I drove it for another 10years. One problem with this forum is everyone is too ready to rip parts off. Try the easy fix first. Do a comp test if it rotates then decide.
