I have just purchased a DVA meter because I can not figure out what is wrong with my engine. Mercury Blackmax 1990 135hp V6 Carbed. I would like to check out the trigger and the spark at each coil. Can anyone tell me the details on how to use this meter to test this out?

The engine will run fine once I get past about 2000 RPMS but stumbles from idle to that point. At idle it is rough and you can hear it skip and see unburnt fuel in the exhast. Using a timeing light, I can see spark on all cyls.

I've replaced the stator which was not the problem. Compression is 93 - 97 on all cyls (not great but ok?)

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you
