I have a 1987 Yamaha 30hp 3 cylinder. It has an electric starter and solenoid on it. But nothing is wired up. ( no battery cables, starter button, etc)

I need to know where everything is suppose to connect. I bought my battery cables and a starter button but need help with the wiring....EDIT

Thanks

You need a service manual, feetdown. It will have the diagram you seek.

Re: how to wire up a starter????

The negative battery cable connects to the negative post on the battery and the other end to the engine block. There must be no paint at this connection and a star washer (external or internal tooth) is recommended to help form a good contact. The positive cable connects to the positive terminal of the battery and the large post on the starter solenoid. The other large post on the solenoid goes to the starter. The small terminal on the starter solenoid connects to one terminal on the starter button. The other terminal connects to the same large terminal on the starter solenoid that the positive battery cable connects to. Pushing the button energizes the solenoid, which is nothing more than a big switch so it connects the two large posts together which then feeds power to the starter. I will assume the engine has a kill/stop button.
