Hello All, I have a small Johnson 6HP Outboard w/20" shaft as a back-up to the larger Johnson on my fishing boat. Bought it used a few months ago, worked on it abit and it runs great. Knowing the year is essential in finding parts or to take it in to be serviced. I can BARELY get a set of 2 numbers off of it and am trying to determine the year. Tried a few searches with these numbers on other sites and they don't seem to be recognized anywhere. The numbers I have are: J-6 REDD and G03773469 (might be a space after the G). Anyone know where I can plug these in to search? Also, I am assuming that the first one is the model # and the second, the serial #. Ideas or thoughts would be welcome. Thanks so much! :)

J6REDD: The "ED" within this "Model Number" indicates the engine is a 1996 6hp Johnson.

J = Johnson
6 = hp
R = Rope start
E = 9
D = 6
D = Factory run number

You say it has a 20" shaft. That model number is for a 15" shaft motor, so it probably left the factory a short shaft.
