Re: Hows work?
Work sucks, thank you very much!

I'm involved in a family owned business, where I am not part of the family.

We have a mostly an absentee owner (75 years old), who once in a while makes an appearance I can only guess with the goal of terrorizing everyone. We used to be able to mostly survive his visits, and all worked reasonably well with his son in charge, as we managed to keep him involved with "special" projects, and as long as he showed up once a week to sign checks, all was well (and profitable).

This most recent incarnation the son has asserted himself in the daily decision making, and his father is assuming a more active role, criticising. (of course, we have long since not been profitable) Which of course makes the old man think his help is all the more needed.

I just had to drive last Friday 200 miles each way to Sudbury, Ontario to fight for the company's case against the union over a grievance that we will no doubt lose that was completely unnecessary in the first place. All due to the help of the son, following the advice of the father.

I'm beginning to think that the only thing that can save us is hiring a hit man for the both of them.

I have tried to convince them to just sell the business, but they think that is disloyal.

Things are going to get ugly here sooner than later, I am afraid. It is a long story.

Sadly, doom is inevitable, it cannot be avoided under the currect circumstances, it is depressing, and it is completely unnecessary.

So it goes, I guess.
