I want to buy a small motor for my v hull jon boat. I have in mind a 15hp 4stroke (4500-5500 rpm)or a 25hp 2 stroke (5000-6000rpm) Is there a big difference betweem these motors in terms of hp and performance? Would 10horses really make a difference?

Re: Hp Difference

I would think going from 15 to 25hp would make a big difference.......thats a 66% increase in power!

Yes, go with the 25 if your wallet can stand it

Re: Hp Difference

TX, Not an expert but here is the basic poop.
A 4 stroke is heavier, quieter, cleaner, and will troll forever without fouling plugs but generally will not perform as powerfully as the same hp 2 stroke.
A 2 stroke is genarally lighter, somewhat noisier, not as clean, idles rougher will tend to foul plugs with extended trolling.
But generally has a better hole shot and top end.
And in my opinion will cost less to maintain over the life of the motor.
Obviously the 15 4 stroke wont even be close to a 25 2 stroke in performance.
