HP limit of merc 888 drive

going to build me up an engine over the winter, for 73 searay srv 220 (currently w/ford 302 & 888 drive)
not going to go crazy like i did on the last ford motor (for car) that i did...351 stroker to make a 427windsor...but was wondering what kind a power limits the 888 drive could handle

thoughts??

Well, I would guess 300-hp or about 300 ft. lbs of torque should be maximum --- my next project is a 351W --- in my old 888/302 --- aiming at 300-hp should be easy.

The marine mechanics will chime in and help if my advice is wrong.

I'll also say 300HP. It's more or less comprable to an Alpha I which most say 300HP is the limit if you want it to last. You can always baby it out of the hole a bit more if you are over that mark to reduce stress.
