hp rating and performance pre 1985 and post 1985

Just wondering. all things being equial do you gain performance with an outboard that is rated at the prop or one rated from the engine?

Theoretically, yes, but I have had both and couldn't tell any difference. The engines I had were a '79 Johnny 70 and a '86 Johnny 70, both on Boston Whaler 17.

JB nailed it right on the head. There will be a difference, but will you be able to percieve it? Probably not.
