I have just bought a 1996 Wellcraft 23 Excel WA with a 200 ocean pro with a 17 pitch prop I really like the lay out of the boat for offshore fishing that we do but when you put 4 adults and normal gear for fishing the 200 seems to have trouble getting going I was thinking of a power upgrade but I am having trouble finding info on HP rating for this boat the plate seems to be missing and I have had no luck finding any info about max hp rating for this boat any information as to where to find it would be greatly appreciated

Re: HP rating

Have you tried different props? What is your max RPM when you are loaded like that? I would think you might be over propped. With the max running RPM's it will be easier to figure out.

I am in the process of building a 23' boat and the coastguard calc's for HP show 240 calculated max for my boat so I would hazard a guess you would be a max of 225, depending how wide the transom is you might just touch the 250 mark.

Re: HP rating

We would need to know the year of your motor. I would hazard to guess with the load in the boat you are turning a bit low on RPM.
