There was a website that I saw on here one time that told you how to measure a boat to get a horsepower rating. Does anyone know what that site is? Thanks in advance.

Re: HP rating

Measurement alone will not dictate the rated horsepower recommendation for a given boat. There are boats that fit into different categories where the same length boat will top out with the same hp motor.Bass boats, high performance runabouts,cruisers,etc...
Does the boat you have in question not have a hp rating plackard?

No, there is no tag on the boat. It is an old Richline 14' aluminum boat. Probably lost over the years. The US Coast Guard used to have a site for backyard boat builders that addressed this problem, how to measure the length width and depth of the boat to find a safe hp rating, but now I cant find that site.

I'll do some searching as well unless you or someone else finds something first.Whatever info is found will just be general in content.Do you happen to know the manufacturer of boat in question or is Richline it?

Nathan , look what I found on the aluminum boat repair forum.
In Reply to: 14 ft richline 25hp evinrude posted by Randy Murawski on September 09, 2002 at 17:50:19:

I have Richline brochures from the 50's and 60's. All of them rate maximum hp at 30 on the 14ft. Also my dad started the company in 1953 we ran 25 hp on the 14 when it first came out in 55. I would not go any higher than 25 hp. The 12 ft is rated for 10 hp.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Responses:Is that the perverbial "needle in a haystack" ;) or what?
