Re: Hrydo Glass boat rotted Floor

I just did the same thing to an 83 larson this past season. Right down to the foam and frame. Once I cleaned it all up I put 1/2 marine plywood cut to fit as close as possible. screwed down with stainless steel screws and top coated the whole interior floor with fiberglass cloth. Once cloth was layed poored resin over the whole thing doing sections and smoothing out. If you do it from start to finish when poorong resin you can get pretty smooth. Added indoor outdoor carpet and thing is as hard as or better than original. Lot of work but worth it..

Hey Jerzy!
I cant help you with putting in the new floor but would you mind giving me some advice on removing the floor? I have an '82 Galaxy that needs the whole load (floor, most likely stringers,& transom.) My concern is how to retain the shape of the boat when I cut the skin over the old floor (at the hull/floor joint.) I am going to try to do while on the trailer. What ya' think?

Re: Hrydo Glass boat rotted Floor

Hey jerzyboaters,

I bought the sheets of cloth at Boaters world 48" wide x 72" long I have a 17 ft boat so I overlapped and cut extra to go accross the stern area. The resin mix you can get there also but at $70.00 a gallon with hardner.
I went to NAPA and got the same stuff their brand for $28.00.
Napa didnt have the wide cloth otherwise I would have got that there also.

As far as a note on tearing the floor out I marked the parimeter of what I had to remove and set my skilsaw at 1/2" which was original floor thickness. You should be able to tell where wood meets fiberglass. I stayed about 2" inboard of old seem to make sure I didnt het hull. Then just lift and scrape for quite a while. Took me a full weekend to remove and clean old material.

Re: Hrydo Glass boat rotted Floor

They had 2 types of weaves one is like a fiber hard to work with. The other one I used is almost like a blanket nice and smooth with small squares. You can cut it with sissors like cloth material. When you poor the resin it becomes transparent.
Good luck sounds like you got a good winter project ahead.
