Paint looks nice! What exactly is the plan on the rest of the hull? Polish up the old Gelcoat and give it a good couple of layers of wax? Tis shaping up to be a thing of beauty....you got the edge on John...he has to paint the WHOLE boat. :D

Looking good John! Did you ever come up with a solution to the rod holder problem? I saw some simple J hooks in stainless that might work, but some sort of bungie would be needed to keep the rods from bouncing out.

Now that you're at the point of rigging, have you decided on a particular gauge manufacturer and model? How about batteries and switching/connection to dual o/b's?

I don't see where people said he couldn't do it. A few experienced members said it couldn't be done with his initial budget ($8000 if I remember correctly). Its fairly easy to underestimate the cost of big projects. John just had to make a few budget revisions along the way. ;)

love the latest pic's. its coming together nicely

a quick question.. it looks like the motors are set at different angles.

is that just a photo thing.. or is it an adjustment or trim thing.

just curious..

Re: HUGE PROJECT!! 30' Scarab Sport overhual

COLOBIKER, on that note i would like everyone viewing this thread to turn there attention to my other post in "prop questions" and see if anyone can put my nerves at ease.....

The question is regarding why we raise the outboards on the bracket as we go back from the transom. I fully don?t understand why???, not to mention i am worried that the water pickups on my lower unit are going to be too high....as you look at the photos in my other thread you will see that the last photo shows it best...when you put a straight edge on the hull i find the bottom of the boat falls right in the middle of my water pickups on the lower units.....does this mean the motors are too high? i have a 25 inch set back bracket and i tried to mount my AV plate 5'' higher than the bottom of the hull (relative to where the lower units fall on the hull). With that being said, i fully don?t even understand why i had to do this? And now that the motors are actually on the boat i have found that my AV plate is 6'' above the bottom of the hull, not the 5'' that i was supposed to get "mathematically"= 25'' set back; RATIO 5 to 1 = 5 inches up from bottom of hull, can anyone help explain why the heck we do this and PLEASE tell me the bracket is at the right height!!!!!!!

Colo, to answer your question the motor on the right is trimmed level, while the left motor is trimmed all the way down, just an illusion.

I didn't look at your other post.

As the water passes under the transom is starts to raise up and resume its normal level, so 25" in back of the transom the water will be higher than the hull. If you had the AV plate even with the hull it would be buried deep in the water and creating a great deal of drag.

This is probably a stupid question at this point but I didn't notice anyone else ask it earlier. Did you make sure that the correct motor is on the correct side of the boat as they should be counter rotating?

If the motors are counter rotating, the will be rotating counter to each other regardless of which way the motors are mounted, right? Does it really matter if the starboard motor is rotating clockwise or counter clockwise?

yes i checked....the left hand motor is on the left side of the boat, the standard rotation is on starboard.

Please....check out my other forum on the prop question and help me!
