I've found a really nice boat for a good price, but it has a cracked hull. It's a decent crack with a puncture at the base of it. the owner ran into a big rock at speed and thats how it happened. is ths expensive to fix? Can it be fixed?
has anyon ever had this problem or bought a boat with this problem and had it fixed? I'm a bit concerned.

I've got a bit of advice from www.watersportforums.com but no one can give me an indication of how expensive the fix will be. I really need someone who know about fixing hulls to help.

Welcome to iBoats Quinten! If you really want to know if it is able to be repaired safely and if it is even financially feasible get a marine survey. A professional surveyor will know if it is worth it or not or if it can even be attempted. A surveyor will give you a complete once over of the entire boat. This will reveal any defects or troubles. Good money spent if you don't have a lot of experience with boats. To find a surveyor check your local phone book, check online, or visit a local boatyard and ask who they recommend. If you can take some pictures and post them here we can give you a very good idea of what you can and cannot do with it.

Good luck! :)

Thanks Fireship - I've been told basically the same thing, but I guess I just want a rough estimate. Any idea on what it would cost?

Yes it can be fixed, but is it worth it, can't tell with out knowing size, make, year and condition of the boat. If it's an old boat, then to have somebody else fix it would cost far more than it's worth, if it's newer, then maybe it's worth it. Now, if you do it yourself, then even an older boat can be repaired and be worth the cost.

How about some details? Like what boat is it(model, year, engine)? How much are they asking?

Just how bad is the hull? ...without a pic, it's like saying I had an accident with my car. Can it be fixed? Sure, everything can be fixed, but is it worth it?

Simple cracks and gouges are easy to fix whereas, main structural damage isn't.

If it's fiberglass, it can be repaired, but, it will need to be Gilligan proof or you'll be stuck on that island with Ginger and MaryAnn.
Find a good fiberglass repair book and see if you think you can do it. Only you can decide that.
