Hull damage question PICS :grumpy:

So I got into my first boat a 1972 16' Glastron V163 and Its a project thats for sure. I have been working on replacing the carpet seats etc. 75 Evinrude 115 runs great but I took a look under the dash area towards the bow. Im wondering if this broken wood is structure support for the bow or just basically a shelving area? Im a little concerned since Ive never taken it on the water that the hull will collapse and it will sink. Hope this make sense. Thanks for your opinion! Pics below. Interested in the whole story of the boat let me know.

ouch.

If the floor has rotted away there, it's likely the floor, stringers, and/or transom have rot as well.

I would stop spending money on it until you know the full extent of the damage.

It is unlikely the wood in the bow is the biggest part of your problems.
Water tends to run aft and the bow tends to be the last place to go.
Your entire floor under the carpet needs to be closely inspected.
If you found a lot of dirt and leaves in the boat during the cleanup, it has likely spent a long time out in the open without a cover over it.

The Stringers may be in worse shape than the Floor under the Bow.

Your entire floor under the carpet needs to be closely inspected.
If you found a lot of dirt and leaves in the boat during the cleanup, it has likely spent a long time out in the open without a cover over it.

Well I bought it off a guy for $300 with a good trailer and running motor only problem was the boat hasnt seen water in years. Literally. The boat has spent its whole life in El Paso, TX and for those of u that dont know maybe rains a few times a year. I brought it to colorado with me to my new duty station hoping to rescue it. You were right about the debris being inside the boat. It suffered alot of sun damage but from the outside it looked sound. A few scuffs on the Hull nothing serious. I knew I could flip it for the evinrude and trailer alone so I couldnt loose. I pulled the carpet and 90% of the floor was sound except basically where the drivers feet go I wont lie it was pretty soggy. This is my first boat and I basically just want to learn everything I can from it have fun and sell it for a bigger newer boat. The wood in the pics above does not connect to the floor. Its actually about a foot and a half higher.
Yes I found termites in some of the interior pieces. I feel thats my main concern. Thanks guys

Below the sole/deck/floor of your boat, there are wood (sometimes fiberglass) "bones" that are essentially a frame in the hull of the boat. More simply - long supports in the hull under the floor.

If those are rotted out or termite infested, the boat doesn't have enough structural integrity to deal with the forces of the motor or the water. You risk breaking up and sinking.

That's why it's being suggested you get a feel for how bad they are before you keep going on the project. You may be best off capitalizing on sellin' the motor and the trailer, and findin' something else in better shape.

The transom may need repaired again. Stringers are below the floor and are the structure and strength of the hull. The hull is a shell. Without help it would not last in waves, wakes, or stress.

Well im not worried about the transom since it held that motor up the whole 10 hour drive from tx to co. If it was going to break or crack trust me it would already have lol. Thanks for your opinion guys. Probably going to have someone who knows more than I do to take a look at the boat and tell me what I got before I give it away. Sorta already attached to the boat so It would be hard to let it go.
