Hull drain

I've chisled out my old transom. I am now planning on replacing the wood and am wondering about the hull drain. The one I removed was a brass tube, I recall seeing that pvc pipe adhears well with fiberglass resin. Could I use a length of pvc pipe and glass it in to use as a hull drain?

There are also plastic ones that are two peices with a flang on each end. They screw together one on the out side of your hull one on the inside, you silicone sealer on both halfs and screw together to seal your transom from water then instal a removeable plug

Does anyone in this forum know where I can buy, rent, or borrow a tool to flange or flare the straight end of a 1" dia. brass thru-hull tube?

Don't need one mike. The brass is soft. Just leave about 1/8 to 3/16" of the tube hanging out on the least visible side. After epoxy cures use the end of a 3/8" socket extention and gently tap the end of the tube over. Don't bend it all at once, just work it around bending a little at each pass, then seat it flat. Budda bing, budda boom, yer done.

Splurge....take indymike's advice and spend the $2.95 and put the right part in and be done with it. <br />Wouldn't it be fun if you got carried away with the budda boom, cracked the epoxy and had to drill out the tube out and start over because it leaked.

<br /><br />CC, I didn't say he didn't need the tube. He just doesn't need a tool. The brass is so thin on those tubes that you aren't gonna crack the epoxy or split the tube with the budda boom. I just put one in and the end of that tube rolls over like Rover. Just have to say Budda Bing softly.

Thanx guys, I worked it out by having a local machine shop turn a tool for me. Took 2 minutes per tube to flare and finish. Looks as good or better than orig. and for less than $10 US.
