Hey now, I've got a question ( yeah, like that hasn't happened before in this thread already by me )

I never did read, or ask...why did you decide on extending the boat 5 feet? It's kind of an odd number. I mean, you could have made it anything you wanted to really. Was there some mathematical reason for it? Did you have a certain interior layout that required 5 feet, or did it just sound like a good number at the time?

( just trying to do my part to keep the high drama going )

simple red....the whole idea was to expand the area i had in the boat. the motor compartment was 4 feet (approx)....and for the bench attached to it...is approx 1 foot.....= 5 feet

when no klu and i were lifting the boat from the cradles.....we had a floor jack.......he put the jack on the extension area...no stringers for support)(on the bilge......and lifted the whole boat.......i screemed............the bilge...didnt even move......it will be a soft ride....

Man I am just in awww. Glad to see that you got it moved and that it passed the stress test Hope a new shop pops up soon for you. Can't wait to see the finished project (like everyone else I'm sure) Keep it up bud your doing GREAT!!

I hope that you are going to move that axle assembly forward some, Oops. Even with tandem axles that thing will be waaaaaaaaay out of balance.

ive got a lot of tounge weight on there right now wize......but after the project is finished....with the moter and gear in.......i can slide the axels foward to get the tounge wright proper

I'm not sure if the rules for a tandem axle are any different than for a single axle. You might find a trailer manufacturer and ask. In the mean time here is the apparent guidline.

"You probably want overall 10 to 15 percent of the complete total weight (trailer weight plus equipment weight) on the tongue," says Matt Stringer, senior product engineer, Bil-Jax.

One thing I do not like about a bow mounted gas tank is it makes the trailer set up more difficult. You either need to balance the trailer, taking into account a full tank or an empty tank. If you are liable to haul the boat any long distances at highway speeds you might balance it empty as it seems foolish to pay for hauling all that extra weight.

Or you could probably balance it with the tank half full and stay within the 10-15% either way.

When it comes to tossing gear in the boat you can just be sure you distribute it evenly, both front and rear.

yeah that bow tank really adds the weight. i was gonna try for aprox 150 lbs on the tounge....that way i can still pick it up by hand if need be. (ive got a good roller wheel on there. ...

HEY !....you remember a few posts ago, we were talking about cg?

when i was winching it on the trlr, the cg actually moved a little backward (measured from the bow) but only a few inches.....(dry weight).....i was shocked how little it moved, i was thing a foot or two.....but nope...you were right, it hardly moved at all.

I would just encourage you to consult a trailer manufacturer or a trailer dealer on the axle placement/balance of your setup.

its easy to calculate on a tandom.......when loaded.....slide the boat backwards........(or only half load outta the water).....and crank foward till the tounge weight is what you want.....(150 lbs will be about 12 %....I hope)...(but the pkge will be weighed so i hit the optimal 10 to 15%) take the measurement from the back of the thull to the bunks......then slide the axels foward that much....

ive got to put a new front axel on it anyhoo........id much rather just buy another trailer, but i cant find any good used ones.

When I bought my boat it was setup like that, 3200# boat/trailer with 150# on the tongue so it could be picked up by hand. After the first trip with the trailer tail wagging at 60MPH I quickly adjusted the axle and bow mount to get 400# on the tongue. No more white knuckle rides for me

That's kinda what I was alluding to fd. I'd hate to see oops creation end up a pile of glass dust. Goodness knows he has spent enough time already sweeping that stuff up.

its a beuteful day here,.....

i wanna be workin on my boat......but i cant grind out side where it is......

so i think im gonna de-winterize the b-liner i brought back from vegas, test it on the water and prep for sale......

no klu is here with me...so it should be a real dog and ponie show for that one

Well, if it makes ya feel any better about it oops!, it's finally nice enough in this state to work outside on the boat, and I get stuck doing running with the family...that and the wind up here has been something else...stupid warm front

we thru the little b liner on the watta yesterday...just in time for the three o clock wind....20 knts......

man i miss my searay.....the little capri just got tossed around like a cork...

im getting really antsy to get back on the ray....it has been 5 days with no counstuction........

ondarvr says i might be as close as a few weeks away from hull conpleation.
(a pro farring it will take 2 days max ....so i think 2 weeks for me)

i came up with a crazy idea for a shop......the back of a semi truck.....im going to check in to it and see how much room there is. the beam is just under 7 feet, and i think the semi is 8.
if the boat is upside down on good roller cradles, it can be moved back and fourth to work on it.

ill check in to it today

You could try a cargo container, too.. they get sold when worn out, and come in varying sizes. Cheap, too.

A little harder to get rid of than a semi trailer though.

Have you thought about a tent-type enclosure? I see our local stores here sell the canopy for about $200US in 10x28 size, and you can put walls on it for about the same price.

Hey Oops, thats a good idea but it's going to be tight in there. I feel confined inside of one thats empty so I can't imagine working inside one, but... like everyone else said You're the man, so you'll make it work! once done you have to start something new because i'm hooked.

ive got a costco tent. ....it would work but space is at a preimum.

the old shipping cans are generally 24 footers round here....too short.

a 48 foot semi dry van would be easy to heat...(for constant temps to cure)
and they rent them here as storage containers for 250 a month.

just drop one behind my store....can be locked, (its also in a secured area) the power would come from my store, hanging kights would be a snap and thirty days later............i just gotta run to the bote to take mesurements.

i love to be on it by friday
