hull hook?

my boat hull has a little bit of hook. i ran a string line from the front to the back. in the middle i have a little gap. ( in the picture ) above the roller is the biggest gap and its only about 3/8 of an inch. would this little bit make my boat plow?

Any idea why the hook is present? Sitting on a roller pushing up? Weak/broken center stringer? You may have something that needs to be fixed more than worrying about hull performance.

I'm not exactly sure what a hook like that would do to on water performance.

uasually caused by the rollers.....and lots for preformance....

but...when planing the hook might be out of the water.....from the center of the hook area to the "pad" there might be a little rock.

so its tough to say without seeing the hook area and the planing surface

i think its from the middle roller pushing up. it sat up for 5 or 6 years. the hook area is from the back of the keel all the way to about a foot to where its starts to curve up.

how can this be fixed? would putting a heavy weight on the middle stringer push it back? like i said its only about 3/8 to a 1/2 inch off.

Some boat manufacturers put a little hook in the hull near the transom as it reduces the boats tendancy to porpoise when on plane. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless there are gelcoat cracks in the area of the hook indicating a possible structural problem.

could this be the reason my boat is plowing? i just removed alot of soaked rotten plywood from the floor because i thought it was the reason, but now im thinking its the hook. the boat would probly go 10 MPH faster if it wasnt doing this.

Hard to say. If you removed soaked rotten plywood from the floor, what do the stringers look like?

With the info from your other thread I am pretty sure the hook is your issue. Getting a hook out of that magnitude could be a pretty big deal . . . You need to repost this in the restoration section and your gonna have to get a look at those stringers.

From the picture it looks like the hull is either damaged or intentionally changes shape right at the roller. It doesn't look good to me, althought the picture is not too clear.

If the manufacturer intended to add some hook (like my SeaRay had), they usually flare the bottom down a bit at the extreme rear of the hull.

Yeah ^^^^ This is a question more than a suggestion. Could you put some weight in the center, like you asked above and hang it from the bow eye and the stern eyes? That may be the best way to get some action although I think it will take some major time . . .

Think a really long time. I had a hook that was caused by improper blocking(then sitting untouched for seven years). I made sure it was supported directly beneath the transom and let gravity do it's thing. It took 11 months but it did finally drop(mostly).

Also, keep in mind that you MUST pull the drive and re-allign the engine. It will shift when the hull does.
