Does anyone know of somewhere to get a HIN plate made.
I just opened the registration renewal for my boat this morning and discovered an extra paper in with it. It basically stated that the HIN on my registration was invalid or not in proper format. I went to our local KDWP office to see what was going on. I was informed that older boats, like mine(made before Nov. 1, 1972), would have to be given a new HIN in the proper format then inspected by a KDWP officer. It is the owners responsiblity to put the new HIN on the boat. I am not good enough with a dremel tool to carve the number into the hull or a plate, besides I'd like to have something that looks decent on it. If you have any ideas on how to go about this, let me know.

Thankyou,
Brian

Thats one idea I had, but I don't think it would meet KDWP's requirements for being hard to remove. I found a place locally that does engraving on trophies and plaques, so I'm having 2 tags made of aluminum, one for the visible number that has to be on the transom, the other for hidden HIN that has to be affixed in an out of sight position. I'm gonna asten them with screws then drill out the phillips drive on the screwheads, also gonna epoxy them on. That should meet the requirements of not being able to be removed without leaving obvious signs of tampering. This is a new thing that KS is requiring, it is supposed to be leading up to the titling of all boats.

Isn't there a certain place for the "out of sight one"? TD?

Not really,
"The duplicate hull identification number must be affixed in an unexposed location on the interior of the boat or beneath a fitting or item of hardware."

That is quoted from the KDWP regulation 181.29(4) (b)
